Finding My Voice Poem by R. L. Allen

Finding My Voice

It took me so very long to say,
I wish you never went away.
All these words I locked inside
now flying free, wings spread wide.

Do you hear me as I sing,
upon the mountain in the spring?
Do you hear me as I cry,
my tears like raindrops in the sky?

It took me months to find soul,
digging deep through ash and coal.
Where have you gone? - as I search down deep,
Where do you pray now that you sleep?

It took me so very long to say,
Hello to happiness, goodbye to grey.
All these words I couldn’t speak,
Now shouting gleefully above the peaks.
