Just The Way It Goes

That’s just the way it goes,
you know it almost never snows
at Christmas,

not since the earth warmed
and made everyone cautious.

That’s just the way life goes,
poppies growing in rows
in November,

remembering all who fell
fighting a battle that wasn’t theirs.

That just how it goes,
always a sunflower grows
tall

and strong, yellow like the sun
in summer and daffodils in spring.

That’s just how it goes,
God is the Father who knows

everything.

Night-Time

Night-time is the hardest.
There is time to think:
time to reflect;
time to remember
the sound of his voice
or the exact shade of blue
in his eyes which were
helped by a pair of
thick-rimmed, retro glasses.
