Fireflies Poem by Christine A Kysely

Fireflies

Fireflies, fireflies
Do you fly for me?
Do your illuminations hold
Some promise of things to be?

Are you tiny messengers
Of peace and light and love
Is your nightly spectrum
Visual music from above.

Are there hidden omens
In your lights that mirror the skies
I wonder where you come from?
I wonder where and how and why.

I lie down in the meadow and watch you
Flash your magic visions
You blanket me with your amazing light
No blade of grass stays hidden.

Who can possess these fireflies?
Not even the richest man
They’re the diamonds of the poor
As abundant as grains of sand.

There are certain things in this life
That money just can’t buy
And one of them is the enchantment
Of a field of fireflies in July.

I might be tired and hungry
But your lights feed my body and mind
I fantasize about things to be
Your aura strikes my low mood blind.

To have the amazing good fortune
Of seeing you on this night
I am the luckiest person on earth
To behold you in my sights.

And if I make wish upon you
Will it be like wishing on a falling star?
Will my hopes be granted
Will someone hear me from afar?

And for just a moment I thought I would capture you
And keep you in a jar
But karma wouldn’t let me do that
I’ll just have to remember you as you are.
