Fireflies And Promises Poem by Faustina Marie

Fireflies And Promises

You're the tug at my lips
That starts the smile,
You set fireflies dancing on my skin
Lighting up my night,
Thunder storms remind me
Of the strength with which you hold me:
It's reassuring

You're the reason for lilting melodies
Sung far too loudly
As I flit around the house

You're the best friend that finally leaned in
And kissed me!
-Sand on our feet, salt breeze on our arms
And at long last a decent kiss

Ripping up shirts to make me laugh,
And video chatting at midnight
To keep me from falling apart

You stitch up my cuts,
Ice my bruises,
And help me to walk off everything
In due time

You've got a lock on my heart
And glowing embers in my core,
That warm the butterflies I still get
Upon hearing your voice

There are no rose colored glasses here:
Just hours, days, months
Of sweet words, silly words,
Careful words,
Honesty
...Promises,
And trust

Teammates, playmates, intimates,
Equals.
This feels a lot like
What love
Is supposed to be

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The first time he kissed me, we were at the beach and needed to leave (he had a four hour drive ahead of him) and as soon as we kissed i jumped in my car and sped off. Giddy, but at a total loss for what to do, and he was devastated by my abrupt reaction. Months later, at another beach, I managed to hold still and savor the moment when he finally got up the nerve to try and kiss me again.
