First Commandment, false Gods. Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

First Commandment, false Gods.

A leader stands, with power bright,
But hold your heart, with all your might.
The First Command, a guiding star,
'No other gods, ' no matter how far.

Not wealth, nor fame, nor nation's call,
Should take the place of God for all.
When trust and hope, like prayers ascend,
To earthly power, the path will bend.

An idol made, of flesh and bone,
A throne usurped, not God's alone.
Psalm says clear, 'Don't trust a king, '
Salvation's song, from God must spring.

Spiritual sight begins to fade,
When truth and lies are overlaid.
Hate grows fast, a bitter seed,
Where love and grace no longer lead.

God asks our hearts, devotion true,
Not earthly flags, of red or blue.
So keep your gaze on skies above,
And place your faith in boundless love.
