First Day Poem by Thyris Taylor

First Day

Well its off to kindergarten and I'm
shaking in my boots.
I've heard that kindergarten isn't
exactly a hoot.

The other thing I hear, that I can't
seem to shake, is that the
kindergarten teacher is as mean
as a snake.

The playroom at my Bibi's where I'm accustom to
spending my time, is now being traded for a
classroom and frequently standing in line.

They said at my age its time to greet the
rest of the herd. A time to run out there in the
pasture beyond the safety of our curb.

The kindergarten teacher was mostly calm
and very cool,
she greeted me warmly
and said welcome to our school.

On to learning the alphabets, the numbers,
and successful peer relations,
not to mention being kind, obedient,
and group acclamation.

Time to show the rest of he world what my
family already knows, I want to reach the heights
and strive to avoid the lows.
