First Love Poem by carol gore

First Love

Look—see the children-there—there in the moonlight
He takes her hand—
But it is she that leads
Leads them into the forbidden garden
Lovingly they pick the flowers
So sweet—bitter sweet
Lost in the moment —
they become one at last.
They feel the ecstasy not the thorns.
Thorns that will cut deep,
Deep into their lives
as they leave their childhoodbehind
never guessing the price they'd pay for the gift
they stole before it's time.
