Facially, fish are not handsome creatures,
but blessed with rather beautiful figures -
streamlined - non-stick they slip through the water
in graceful motion. They also feature
scales iridescent with magic rainbows.
Tropical fish in a million colours -
markings designed by Kandinsky or Klimt
patterns that some kind of genius dreamt.
Watch as the elegant rippling fin
undulates gently whenever they swim.
All forms of life began in the water -
some have remained - saw no need to alter.
But some fishy forebears, I understand,
tried for a while, then gave up on the land,
returned to the lakes, the rivers and seas
to the weightless life of watery ease.
