Flanders,1978 Poem by Kathy Greethurst

Flanders,1978

A field gun fires.
We bow our heads.

Sixty years
on parade, headstones
etched with names.

I'm eighteen,
saying ‘hi' to boys
my age.

No one speaks
until the buglers
have played.
