Flesh Contra Spirit Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Flesh Contra Spirit

Slowly my mind is being taught
Since my hearts surrender
Receiving daily my report
Of the great pretender

Even to self I’m found to lie
The flesh is often weak
While to the flesh I hope to die
When deep within I seek

Nothing of goodness is to tell
But He of Christ The Lord
Helping to guide my soul from hell
And evil’s tempting horde

I feed my flesh to wear a crown
For strength to live each day
Instead to keep my spirit down
He looks a different way

To the world and man’s desire
To any sort of lust
Ending eternally in fire
When all else turns to dust

So through God’s Word my spirit’s fed
Through Truth streaming in
Through Jesus Christ Life’s living Bread
A course is set from sin

According to Heaven’s Holy plan
With Jesus hand in hand
I live to God and not to man
Eyeing The Promised Land

Within our world there’s food galore
Temptation keeps awake
But that which leads through Heaven’s door
Alone through grace I take…..
