Flying Without Wings Poem by Laurence Overmire

Flying Without Wings

Ambition drives
Through years of relentless
Struggle
Enduring the continual barrage
Of slight and slander
The need to feel
Important
More compelling than the need to

Understand

But finally
The absurdity of the game becomes
Apparent
The fool in the mirror no different
Than the rest
The realization devastating, yet
Liberating
The strength to admit failure
Without shame or remorse
The foundation of a greater

Success.
