I did not set out to pen these lines
But in my deep reflection
I remember you
And your flashes of greatness
On the Athletics track.
You raced here!
You raced there!
You raced at many meetings,
Winning races and fans.
I watched you in awe!
I was thrilled, inspired!
I admired you - a champion in this land!
You were glowing, happy,
You thought such happiness would never end,
You were blinded by success,
You could not see
That the track, though golden
had no future to offer!
Though you are gone,
I still think of you, Cliff Murray
As a Champion of the track!
