For My Golden One

“Write me a poem if you can.”, she said.
A cute little thing with a couple of rhymes.
Something for me to read in my bed
To show me you love me, to tell me I’m fine,
For I’m feeling unworthy, lately, it seems.”

“Show me how to feel good about life,
Tell me my purpose on God’s green Earth.
Make me believe not all’s trouble and strife
And that my living has meaning and worth.
I often feel all that is left me are dreams.”

This from a woman that God has so blessed
That all manner of men find her simply divine.
He’s proved He thinks she’s wondrous by filling her nest
With little ones like her, more of her kind.
He’s been trying to say, “Of the crop, you’re the cream.”

So, the problem I have, or one anyway,
Is to prove as true what I see as clear.
She outshines the sun in the sky at midday
And lights up the night with her smile so dear.
(How can her heart be heavy when she’s made of moonbeams?)

But all I can offer are the feelings I have
That she’s one of the good things we need in this life.
To offset the ugly and act as a salve
For the slow healing wounds with which our times are rife.
She’d be the best part of most any team.

Well, I hope she finds something in this jumble of words
That makes her feel needed and loved for herself
For her heart should be up in the air with the birds,
Not lying behind some old junk on some shelf.
(Stay away from the dark thoughts, go where light gleams.)
