For Once, Let Us Be Human Poem by Anisha Nyambe

For Once, Let Us Be Human

Let us write stories and not poems for once
and those who write poems will write stories instead
and us who do both will do nothing.

Let us play with more than ourselves for once.
Find a friend, take their hand and dance in endless circles
and if you don't have a friend, make one but don't make them.

Let us acknowledge our lows for once.
We are always winning together and losing alone.
Why not try to lose while wearing a coat of dignity?

Let us see each other as beautiful for once.
Tell someone that they're pretty and nice.
Make the feel special.

And finally, let us stop assuming all is alright for once;
accepting problems can help solve them.
And so, we will accept that I am a hypocrite for writing this poem.
