For The Girl In The Evening Dress Poem by Greg Young

For The Girl In The Evening Dress

The way she made me feel like Ronald Colman
in “A Tale of Two Cities”

I just wanted to shout at her,

tell her,
you have walked between the raindrops!

Some people are broken and that's how the real world is!

I cannot weather a Goddess!

Stop with Hope! This isn't a Hollywood Movie!

and how I also wanted to tell her tonight,
when I came home,

I found a rabbit on my sidewalk bleeding

and what a hypocrite I am.

helplessly watching its arms grow stiff

as If I could ever matter,
chanting again and again

”C'mon God,
Please,
Just let it Live.”
