For Them Poem by Mio Draconis

For Them

The sting of skin,
The burn of leather,
Hands ghost over wounds long healed,
For once, the touch was lighter than a feather.

Tears, painfully shed,
Lucid fears and nightmares.
wondering exactly when
my skin will begin to tear.

Seen in their eyes,
The sadism and hate.
Eager for freedom,
But for how long will I have to wait?

It hurt and it hurt,
Till it hurt no more.
There is nothing left to feel,
Nothing to hold out for.

I let it wash over me,
The ever - so - peaceful light
And on that storming evening,
I gave up on my fight.

As I opened my eyes,
I was faced with many others.
And I was welcomed with open arms
By my new sisters and brothers.

Tears anew began to run down my face,
But they were no longer from pain.
And from that moment I swore
That for children like me,
I would be the sun shining down through the rain.
