For Those On The Shores Poem by Adeosun Olamide

For Those On The Shores

She gazes out to the sky or sea
and hopes her spirit is as free,
as the clouds or waves that be.
but the waves that be, ain't free.
Tis a prisoner of the wind,
that be in her hair and ear and brain,
and causes be leaping or dancing in its breeze.

it whispers or doesn't,
but she hears the call,
that promises a freedom from the chains of debt,
or from the burden of surplus,
or from the crowd or solitude,
or a promise of more,
to give or be that which is needed.
Her soul, in the silence,
heed the call, for not many, calls.

Reaching to be free or be rolled,
Or be surrendered to something more,
She finds we way,
but the ocean's embrace is different from the shores.
For those who heed the call do not float but sink,
And do not sink into ease nor peace,
but sunk, they bear the ocean's weight,
that evermore reigns her soul.

There, where the breeze does not stay,
but bore through us,
we given or won to the sea, wail evermore.
