Forest Fire Poem by Dulan Kumarasiri

Forest Fire

It all began,
From a single spark
Then I ran,
The fire lighting the dark
That was my plan,
Progress fell on an upward arc
Do what you can,
That was their remark

Soon the dry trees:
Setting each one aflame
Soon, fire is all he sees;
The forest would never be the same
The flames scorching and hot
The trees were dead
To stop burning I cannot!
That was what he said

The smoke rose,
my eyes close
It clouded my sight
The sun went down
The cries drown
It was a darker night

Looking around; nothing but pain
Sticking around, I might go insane
I'm seeking help now, can't find a way out
I will never bow, I have no doubt
Trapped in my own fire
I have no desire
It would be detrimental to leave
There is still so much left to achieve

It all began,
When a fire ran,
Far faster than
A simple man.
