Forever Poem by John Yaws

Forever

Forever....such a pretty word
Whenever it's applied.
To something pleasant in our lives
That we wish would abide.....

Forever young- ah, what a thought!
Forever strong and brave...
Not victimized by age, .... disease
Nor haunted by the grave.

Forever with someone we love-
And never all alone...
Nor so by censure be beset
That we despair and groan.

Forever to have peace of mind-
Not haunted by regret-
Of things we've done, or things we've said
Or people we have met.

Forever true to our own selves-
And not be plagued by shame.
To lose our pride and self-respect
To never be regained.

Forever? What a dreadful word
When we stop and consider-
That life is not composed of sweet
But also holds the bitter.
