Forever Spring Poem by Toni Atchison

Forever Spring

In my mind, I see the flame of autumn
or the crystalline beauty of winter snow.
It seems I always long for seasons' past,
seldom paying tribute to the present.
This year is different though-
for spring refuses to leave.
And here is June, I still sleep
with a quilt on my bed.
And the fresh soft green refuses to age
to the hard tired green of summer.
Lovely spring has come to stay.
The nightly succession of
diamond stars and sapphire sky
is only occasionally veiled in gray.
Even the sunlight is sweeter than summer,
a kinder caress to the skin
than the hammer-blows of full-flung heat.
I almost hope it never ends.
