If I was a bird,
Instead of me,
It would be easier
For you to set me free.
Just close your eyes,
And open your hands,
And wish so hard to never see me again.
For I would fly just as high as my lungs would let,
Looking up in the sky and never turning back.
No goodbyes, not a glance or a wave.
Not even a twitter of a song.
Please, just close your eyes,
And open your hands.
And pretend you’ll never see me again.
For you clip my wings and kill my song.

If I was a balloon,
Tangled up in a tree,
It would be easier
For you to set me free.
Just close your eyes,
And make a wish,
And believe I’ll carry that bit of you with me.
For I would drift up to the heavens,
Headed up to the farthest reaches of the sky.
No goodbyes, not a turn, or a flinch of my tail,
Or even a dance in the wind.
Please, just close your eyes,
And make a wish,
And believe that I will carry you with me.
For you only anchor me to this cold earth and watch as I drown.

If I was a fish
Trapped in a corner of the sea,
It would be easier
For you to set me free.
Just close your eyes,
And make a wish,
And imagine a wave releasing me.
For I would swim with the current,
Letting it take me as far from you as it can.
No goodbyes, not a smile or a nod,
Not even a wriggle of a fin.
Please, just close your eyes,
And make a wish,
And imagine a wave setting me free.
For I would swim with the current,
Letting it carry me to a new life.

No goodbyes because they only hurt.
For I, my love, have given all I can give just to hold on.
But now I see that its time to move on.
Just close your eyes,
And open your hands,
And believe you’ll love again,
If only you can set me free.
