From Fred Poem by Karl Harrison Bridge

From Fred

'Click'... the World went out.
'twas there, then gone;
There again as the light came on.

Fear chills me to the bone -
Abandoned? Must I face a life alone?

Consolations, they are few.
Alas, material goods will not renew
the light for me, the light of you.

You see, the bed that you made me
Will help me to wait. The toys that
You gave me will help to placate.

All of these things will help me
As I suffer the night
That draws down around
when you withdraw your light... my Master.

(from your faithful & obedient dog, Fred.)

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Dogs just can't get their brains around object permanence! Leave the house and they bark as though permanently abandoned.

I'm a new poet so please don't criticise my effort too harshly
