From The Cradle To The Grave Poem by Tondana Fatimah Seebaway

From The Cradle To The Grave

From the cradle to the grave
It’s your love and mercy I crave
All that I own you gave
Submit to you and my soul I save

I am only human full of flaws
Striving to seek perfection, I implore
In this quest I tumble and fall
But before I even try you know it all

Sometimes I do forget myself
Seeking the world and all its pleasures
That your creed I care less
Neglecting and damning the consequence

I walk the surface of the earth
With so much pride like I own my life
Without stopping for a moment to ask myself
The source of this life and the whole universe

You must be one kind of a being
To watch me act in this manner and still let me be
When you have the might and power to instantly strike me
But you wait till the last hour and gladly accept me

Sometimes I do not understand your ways
But they always turn out to be the best anyway
So in hard times I patiently wait
As I beseech you and pray

Others may not be as lucky as me
As despite all the signs they fail to see
And a catastrophic end they are destined
Could it be by your decree?

There were times when I felt so empty
So lost and life made no meaning
Until my soul embarked on a journey
To go back to its source willy-nilly

I feel a great sense of peace within now that I have found you
And hope never to depart from you
To finally meet you one day and behold your divine face
Is all that I live for... From the cradle to the grave
