from time to time you appear in my head
things that you did and things that you said
they ring clear like a bell, bounce around in my mind
my heart is heavy; my eyes are lined
i can imagine the agony that ensued
when you swallowed the last of them, this i knew
it wasn't an accident, it wasn't a mistake
it's one of the very worst choices a human can make
it's been two years now and still it aches
your eyes behind mine and the strength that it takes
every day to keep going and every minute to breathe
knowing you're not here, no longer right next to me
