Future Notice Poem by Imaanah Saleem

Future Notice

Rating: 4.0

To the children of mines that may one day or may not ever be,
Za'riyah, Naeem, Salahuddin and the rest of you
This is mommy,
I'm not looking forward to seeing you, because I already see you in my mind
The Children of my desires,
There with me, all the time,
I see your daddy too,
Beautiful,
And suitable for the part,
Of upholding the family I visualize, and hope to one day start,
We are full of flaws,
He and I,
And you'll be that result,
Some stubborn girls and goofy boys begging for lessons to be taught,
You'll be headaches for your dad and me,
Pay back for our younger years,
You'll be trials of anger, stupidity, laziness, and fear,
Most times, we won't be able to stand you,
We'll deal solely out of love,
A force strong enough to keep you fed, even when we've had enough,
You'll be allowed to live with us passed thirty, despite all the threats we toss your way,
Our love for you will be forever, no matter what we say,
Just keep it in mind that we are human,
Stomps on our toes would hurt us just as well
As you, Za'riyah, Naeem, Salahuddin,
All of you tattle tells,
So be easy little ones,
For mommy is looking out,
Doing my best to purify my garden, so that you'd all have a good place to sprout,
Don't let it go for nought,
Being sources of my regret,
I'd much rather enjoy my time with you all,
Not spend it being upset.
Do your best to make me proud,
I assure you, it won't take much,
I'm a sucker for you all already,
Although, I am in no rush…
