Gator Bait Poem by J.B. LeBuert

Gator Bait

Let me warn you ‘bout what you do
‘Dat boat ‘dare might jus' fool you
‘Da bottom's flat for a reason
You might tip over, if you go out ‘dis season

A pirogue is not to fool wit'
At first you might just want to sit
It takes time to learn to stand
In ‘dat boat, stay near ‘da land

Down on ‘da bayou life is grand
Livin' in ‘da swamp - better ‘dan dry land
Before you go, listen an' wait
Udderwise you end up, jus' gator bait
Jus' gator bait
Udderwise you end up, jus' gator bait
You'se better jus' sit ‘dare an' wait
Doan' put too much on ‘dat empty plate
Udderwise you end up jus' gator bait
Jus' gator bait

‘Da bayou's not for ever'body
Takes years of learnin' and keen study
‘Dese folks may seem dumb to you
But ‘day know what to do
When livin' in ‘da bayou

You'se better now lis'en up
Lis'en close and doan' sip from ‘dat cup
Udderwise you end up, jus' gator bait
Jus' gator bait
Udderwise you end up, jus' gator bait
You'se better jus' sit ‘dare an' wait
Doan' put too much on ‘dat empty plate
Udderwise you end up jus' gator bait
Jus' gator bait

All ‘dem years of high priced school
Down here now, who's ‘da fool
Doan' go off wit' ‘dat attitude
Or else you end up sum'body's food
You'se better jus' sit ‘dare an' wait
Doan' put much stock in ‘dat lucky fate
Udderwise you end up jus' gator bait
Jus' gator bait
