Genuine Poem by James Meaney

Genuine

Sitting on the world
Thinking about a girl
She got her own world
I've got only one thing,
& it ain't pearls
I've got no money, I've only got love
But when I'm around her,
I feel like a million bucks
Me & you, A sum of one & one
Two beats of the same drum
Your perspective is nothing but genuine
Sometimes your quaint & I don't mind
& if our love laughs at our dreams
It's not that bad as it seems
Because nothing determines our latitude
except for our pursued attitude
Which reaches all up to planets to mars
& they say everyone lives in a gutter
But me & you live in space & see only the stars.
