Getting Old Poem by Marilyn Lott

Getting Old

Getting old has its disadvantages
Of course we know that’s true
But also, looking at it close
There are good things too for you

We have more time I think
To do the things we never could
We can re-arrange our schedules
As we never knew we would

Of course, we’re getting a little rusty
Like the color of a red dirt road
We have our cloudy days often, but
We don’t have such a heavy load

Our kids are raised and now we can
Enjoy and spoil the next generation
We smile a lot at those precious kids
When they leave we have relaxation

We’re in the autumn or winter years
Of our long and interesting journey
We’ve dropped our perfect leaves by now
But we don’t have to be in such a hurry

We can take the time to ponder too
Good times and some that left a scar
But all are so important because
They have made us the person we are

So let’s enjoy today – take time to reflect
Our life as it continues to unfold
Think mostly of the pleasant things
That comes from getting old!
