Ghalib's Ghazal: A Rendering Poem by Khalid Rawat

Ghalib's Ghazal: A Rendering

A rendering of Ghalib in English!

It is long since I had hosted my friend
And lit my house with the sparkling wine!

My heart urges me to fall on my face
before her guard to enter her place!

my heart is again coursing the path of guilt
threatening the ego's head, hands on hilt!

I gazed a fresh spring bud with a visage
Red as a rose with an accent of wine

Let me leer at her at her balcony
With her black hair tousled on her face

My heart longs for those blessed days and nights
When I thought nothing but her all day long!

Love is coming to cut the heart open
with millions of salted scapula
