Gift Of Memory Poem by Francis Duggan

Gift Of Memory

For as long as your gift of memory you retain
The past as you knew it with you will remain
Though some of your memories give rise to regret
And sometimes we remember things we wished we could forget
The great gift of memory is a wonderful thing
The past to the present to us it does bring
The memories of laughter the memories of tears
Are in us today from the long gone years
The joy in the memory of good times that did not last
And the sadness in our sadder days of the past
But those who lose their memory of pity in need
Since they have lost one of life's great gifts indeed
For as long as your great gift of memory you retain
The past as it was in you will remain.
