Give - Poem by Emma Crobaugh

Give to us vibrant words --
make us sing --
give to us staunch, strong words
that swell with triumph --
words of light
that shine as stars,
words that blaze
through time and space.
Soft, tender words
whose whispered cadence
tells tales of love
and the star.
The happy words that ring,
fierce, fiery words of crimson heat,
words that startle,
words that scorch and sear,
words leaving their echo in the minds.
Give to us true words --
words that flow --
so many words
we cannot hold the tide.
