Giving Locally Poem by Saiom Shriver

Giving Locally

Clothing today
given away
New vacuum
creates space and light.
Miracles come your way

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Because I believe that matter has consciousness
it is harder to give away clothes which might not
be valued. In addition, not having washer or dryer
one keeps more clothes than do those with appliances.

It would have been easier to give the donated clothes to
Salvation Army but they are not following their founders
General and Mrs Wm Booth and Bramwell
Booth who were vegetarian and preached it.

Goodwill is too high priced and their dumpsters
indicate how many valuable things they are
throwing away without even recycling the material.

As a bibliophile, the hardback books in their
dumpsters bother me. They could have
free shelves.

Oxfam... is it still involved in animal flesh?

I chose a church which I know feeds and
clothes the refugee community.

(I once told a friend I'd lived in Takoma Park 14 years
without locking my door. She replied 'My dear! Who could
possibly want anything you have! ' Actually this writer once experienced a street person offering me clothes to improve my appearance)
