Giving Up Your Fight Poem by Donna Byrne

Giving Up Your Fight

It's been 3 long years
Since you passed away
But still the pain
Is as fresh as that day
Seeing you lying there
Was a horrible sight
Knowing you were leaving us
But you still put up a fight
I held your hand and rubbed your face
Begging you not to go
I know you tried your best but you couldn't win the race
They moved you to a private room
We were all around
You were breathing slowly
Then suddenly not a sound
We called the doctors to the room
Hoping it would be alright
We held our breath when he told us you had given up your fight
None of us could believe it
We had lost someone so dear
But even though your not with us now
We know you are always near
We always loved you
And we always will
Your love is still with us
Though your body is still

In memory of my grandmother
Deeply missed and loved
