Glow Poem by Matej M.

Glow

He, who was molded by darkness,
grown to treat it like an old friend,
whom all his freedom and safety relies on,
meets her—
the pure of soul,
a faerie angelic, divine,
the most innocent woman of all.

The Devil in him despises the God in her.

His filthy, wretched demons can't stand
the sacred touch of her body.

Every caress of her
beams like a healing light
in the vast, vile, dark prairie of his mind,
where his demons reside.

As they rage, wreaking havoc
to keep him from seeing that light,
a song starts echoing
from a deep, horrid scar in his heart.

Its name, Love.

A song that was enchained,
forbidden by those evil spirits.

He hears the chant whisper to him:
'She is no different from you—
the light of her only reflects the light buried deep in your soul.
Let darkness be gone, and you become whole.'

He doubts.
He fears.
How could he ever exist without the darkness in him?

No answer.

Yet still—
she, this magical, heavenly,
human embodiment of God,
makes him see the way out from the eerie gloom.

She reaches out her hand,
and he, now with all his courage and conviction,
takes it—
trusting—
he breaks away from the filth,
from the land of his so-well-known demons,
from the darkness,
rising into her radiant, warming glow.

Reborn.
Whole.
Free.
