Go Back To Where You Came From Poem by Chen-ou Liu

Go Back To Where You Came From

a tanka prose for George Grant, author of a Canadian classic, "Lament for a Nation"

"Has the 'Trump effect' spilled over the border to Canada? " Today's headline makes me wonder if the editor tries to shelter his smugness behind this rhetorical question. The front page story reminds me of an Ontario judge who wore a "Make America Great Again" ball cap to court the day after the U.S. election. I put down the paper and look out the window.

the white fence
between my neighbor and me
one meter higher...
the flowers I planted last year
struggle toward sunlight
