Going Back To The City Poem by Job Ombati

Going Back To The City

I am traveling back
in this shuttle minivan.

The seats are comfy,
the driver appears competent,
and fellow travellers
mind their business.

The car stereo
pours out rhumba hit
after rhumba hit.
It feels so good.

And then—
as if from the wide azure heavens—
it's 'Lusa! '

'Lusa mwana mama,
la dansi la weeh 🎶'

And Oliver Ngoma's whole heart
is in it.

And just before our van
pulls into town,
out floats
Sam Fan Thomas' 'Sabina.'

My heart remains in that van!
