Golden Hills Poem by Leighton J Rees

Golden Hills

Rating: 5.0

A place so far away, yet I have seen it many times
Lush country where I will never make it to, a place i'll never find.
Frustration that I will never crawl across those soft grass golden hills
Taste the earth, drink from the river, feel its thrills.
I long to be there and help the waves come crashing in
Start fires, make it rain when the drought begins
Breathe in the perfumed air, bury myself in the sand
My anger burns red that another roams this land.
I missed my chance to visit, no matter now it's way too late,
I can only sit and wonder now it's all over thanks to fate.
Was it as beautiful on the inside as on the outside looking in?
What other treasures were there hiding?
Could I have lived within?
Those golden hills slip further away,
Forever an opportunity missed,
But I still smile in the comfort knowing that place still exists.
