Gone

If I should say I’m lonely
Would you believe me?
He walked when things got tough
Broke my heart, took my car and stuff.

If I should say I am lonely
Would you believe me?
He walked with our dream
Found another wifely queen.

If I should say I’m lonely
Would you believe me?
He now calls me every day.
What does he want me to say?

If I should say I’m lonely
Would you believe that
It is another day of understanding -
Betrayal leaves the heart pounding.

We were once like lizards
Inseparable
on hot summer’s days
that was our malaise.

If I should say I’m lonely
Would you believe that it hurts?
Dreams, more dreams - was our perfect love
hearts bound as a large hand in a tight leather glove

We were once that couple at the bus
Stop who could not bear to say good-bye
Just to go to work for eight hours
Was heart wrenching and cause us to cry.

Now? Divorce? I was forced!
He calls – I listen
When we hang up tears glisten on my cheeks.

If I should say I’m lonely
Would you believe me?
He tells me he loves me
But nothing can change
Am I deranged?
