Gone Girl Poem by Mary Champion

Gone Girl

In the past
there was a girl -
green eyes and auburn hair.
Perfect dream,
almost came true,
but when she left, despair

gripped his heart
which broke in two.
How pointless life now seemed.
There and then
his hopes took wing,
‘twas not the life he'd dreamed.

In the past
there was a love
that promised Paradise.
In the now
an empty shell
and echoes of her lies.
