Gone To Jesus Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

Gone To Jesus

Rating: 2.5

He told me once, 'I don't mind dying,
but I hate to see the children cry.'

That was after he got the Dear John
from his bride-to-be. 'I always knew
that woman would be the death of me,
and here it is, I see.' The citation
was mostly Marine Corps boilerplate, true
in its basic details-his platoon leader
wrote that he'd stayed at his post
until the end. I think now of those kids
who'll never cry and I regret that
I never said-'Semper Fi! I love you! '

We can't have all things to please us,
not in this life. Friend, go to Jesus.
