Goodbye 2018 Poem by Daniel B Kelleher

Goodbye 2018

Goodbye 2018 Hello 2019

The countdown has begun
As 2018 draws to a close
The bells begin their ringing
Auld Lang Syne in full voice
            Hello to 2019

Hugs and kisses were free flowing
Strangers sharing and joining in
Some were sad to see 2018 go
Others welcomed with open arms

Memories of loved ones high in the Sky
Each twinkling star was their precious one
Were mixed with tears of great sadness
With seeing the joy of sharing  happiness

My fondest memories of all
Was seeing my Grandson thrive
An autistic child of six years old
Reading books learning skills

My next was to see my son wed
The last of four to leave the nest
For them the circle of life begins
I pray their journey will progress

Family holiday to far off land
Where the sun bleach beaches
Reach out to deep blue seas
Let our hair down with the nightlife

A lot of sad stuff ruined the year
Terror atrocities never cease to end
Starving nations dying in their thousands
On a daily basis with no end in sight

Lack of political direction is the form
Personal greed seem to be the norm
Lackey governments installed by cheats
Instilling fear on it's people to keep in check

So yes for millions 2019 more of the same
No political clout to ease their sorrow and pain
Charitable organizations find it overwhelming
Some with inside intervention have failed

Closer to home it's starting here
Our health system has imploded
Our elderly are treated appallingly
No health care  place for them

Cover ups by those in power
Have led to deaths by cancer
Outpatient list growing longer
Patients left dying on trolleys

Homeless sleeping in doorways
Hostels bursting at the seams
Families sleeping in one bedroom apartments
Some sleeping in tents by the guay side

My personal wish for 2019
Peace health and happiness to all
To all the carers happier times ahead
To my wife a very happy New Year
