Goodbye Grandad Poem by Jennie Henshaw

Goodbye Grandad

Rating: 4.5

Words cannot describe this ache in my heart
I miss you a lot, I can’t bear that we’re apart
I love you forever, I hope that you know
You’re very dear to me, I can’t let you go

You told me of times from when you were young
When Mummy was young, when I was young
I’ll always remember saying goodnight to you
That last, final time, it still makes me blue

Last year I came with you on holiday
Nanna, you and I went together away
I took lots of pictures of memories together
I’ll treasure those moments always and forever

I can still hear your voice, when you said goodnight
You’d say “goodnight my love, I hope you sleep tight”
You’d lie in your armchair and I’d sit by your side
(No more now that you’ve died)

Thank you for all this you’ve given to me
I guess it just was not meant to be
To have more time with you not even a day
As you have just been taken away

I said goodbye to you in that hospital room
I told you I love you and that I’d see you soon
I know that’s not possible anymore
We’ll be together again soon just like before

I love you Grandad, all of us do
I hope that these words reach you
I know you love me, Nanna, Mummy too
We won’t ever forget you
