Goodbye, My Best Friend Poem by Kirsty Richards

Goodbye, My Best Friend

Sitting by his bedside
I watched him lying broken
Whispering goodbye to my best friend
Given all his time away
To anyone who needed
A most amazing man until the end

Tears rolling down my cheeks
I begged him not to leave me
Said I just cant live my life if you're not there
He gave the saddest smile
Placed his trembling hand in mine
And said 'My darling, Im not going anywhere'

'If your heart is ever broken
Or a hope has ever died
If your lonely in the day
Or frightened in the night
Just call out my name
And I'll be there by your side
You'll never be without me, my best friend'

The comfort of his words
Brought me to my knees
Layed my head into his blankets and I cried
I knew the time was fading
As his warm hands turned to cold
And I listened as his breathing slowly died

With his final ounce of strength
He said 'I love you' and he smiled
And I knew that he was happy in the end
I kissed him on the cheek
And whispered in his ear
'I'm so proud to have known you, my best friend'

'If my heart is ever broken
Or a dream has ever died
If Im lonely in the day
Or frightened in the night
I'll call out your name
And you'll be here by my side
I'll never be without you, my best firend'
