Grace In Goodbye Poem by Evelyn Sylvia Selassie

Grace In Goodbye

When you pause and truly look back, you may notice a quiet truth:
what stayed and what left were both shaping you, guiding you,
shielding you in ways you couldn't yet understand.

We often think we lost the love we needed most—
only to discover, with time, that the universe was protecting us.
For what beauty is there in loving someone
who wanders, entertains old flames,
or leaves you carrying the weight of loyalty alone?

Imagine offering your heart, your home, your future,
while they offer inconsistency, absence, or betrayal.
There is no peace in that kind of story.

So when life closes a door,
do not only see the ending—
see the mercy.
See the protection you didn't know you needed.
Be grateful for the unseen hands that separated you,
so you could one day meet a love
that will not ask you to suffer to keep it.
