Grace Of God Poem by Heidi Elizabeth

Grace Of God

Like a child on christmas morn
My insides tremble with a wildness warmed
I am intoxicated with anticipation as I undress the bounty from it's garnish

My approach is heedful
As I coddle the scorpion
Tenderly bypassing it's lethal sting
Thru gentle persuasion

Feverishly protecting the patient soul dance that keeps it's elusiveness well hidden in it's back pocket

I immerse myself in the entangled intrigue
So simple is my love for the complexity of you
With lucid confusion I speculate our next move
A game of chess played with reckless abandon

Barefootedly stepping on broken glass
Weighing each cut with the prize to be had
Knowing that winning means losing all
preciousness awarded us by the Grace of God

As the ache of this fist searches its' recovery
My smile reveals a sadness that cannot be erased
Choices that restrain us from the greatest of gifts
Reward us with our most cherished of treasures
