Grad School Moo Poem by Jay Toff

Grad School Moo

The cattle meander around, moving
hap
hazard
ly
and
slow
ly
toward the shelter of the barn.

And I pray that one of them will produce
chocolate
milk
one day,
just to shock the hell out of the farmer.

The farmer is subsidized and uninterested.
He knows the beef on legs will eventually seek
shelter
in the comfort of the barn.
They all head that way sooner or later,
except
for the ones he had to shoot out in the pasture.
Those were the troublesome bovines.

He neither missed them nor didn't miss them,
for he couldn't categorize things this way.
