Grammatical Grip Poem by Richard G Berg

Grammatical Grip

She inserts a comma before
They have finished
Talking,
He accuses her in any
And UPPER case
Of having a complex
For complex sentences

A love affair
With subordinates,
Or subordinate clauses,
Symptoms of making a pass
At sentence parsing:
A loving sentence
A sentence of loving

Which endures
For as long she dangles
Her participles

He accuses her of not knowing
What she wants

She wavers; semi-colons splicing
Her sincerity - and dashes -
Dashing men were always
Her, quotation marks, 'weakness'

She protests with a threesome
Of exclamation marks! ! !
Phallic outbursts that prick
His pride

He knows that her pregnant
Pauses, are meaningless
Her erudite ellipses
Drive him dotty...

He puts this all down
To her childhood:
Her parent-hetical discourse

She questions with promiscuous
Question marks scattered
Across the sheets

Her love
For commas returns,
He insists on putting a stop
To her addictive love

By stopping the words
Fully

Their fullest
Stop
