Gratitude Poem by Della Hodgson James

Gratitude

I'd like to thank the ladies of Glendale
Those that were so kind to me,
When I come, I was an invalid, a stranger
But this sunshine has done wanders for me.
I was bereaved, heart-weary, discouraged
I knew not where to look for new friends,
Then Mrs. Mays heard of my sad plight
And sent me some flowers to tend.

Not only her, but many more ladies
Have sent plants, and been so exceptionally nice,
From the debris of my near destruction,
You have helped me to build a new life.

I am so grateful for your kindly interest
What more could one want than the best,
You have shown me the brightest side of friendship
And I've just fallen in love with the west.
