Great Lover, The

Rating: 2.9
I have been so great a lover: filled my days
So proudly with the splendour of Love's praise,
The pain, the calm, and the astonishment,
Desire illimitable, and still content,
And all dear names men use, to cheat despair,
For the perplexed and viewless streams that bear
Our hearts at random down the dark of life.
Now, ere the unthinking silence on that strife
Steals down, I would cheat drowsy Death so far,
My night shall be remembered for a star
That outshone all the suns of all men's days.

Rupert Brooke had mastered the art of living in the present moment that made ordinary things specially loveable. I have found the book The Power of NOW, by Eckhart Tolle very helpful in learning to live fully in the present moment. You may like to read it. I Quote: 'Use your senses fully: Be where you are. Look around - just look, don't interpret. See the light, shapes, colours, textures. Be aware of the silent presence of each thing.' Tolle tells us to stop worrying about the past and future - live fully in this moment because NOW is actually all we have. Do not always be wanting to be where you are not! ! Then cups and sheets and blankets become things we can truly love....as Brooke had discovered.
