Guided Meditation Poem by Mary Champion

Guided Meditation

Today, I tried to relax -
following a guide
Oh God!

The music was soothing,
I followed the directions
and my body relaxed.
My body was soothed
but my mind…
my mind was increasingly irritated
as it processed
the fatuous crap
emerging from the
airy-fairy bubble
inhabited by my guide.

How does her optimism survive
life in the world as it is?

'Forest bathing is free'- she says.
Huh!
What if you live on a run-down estate
in the middle of a city
and can't afford the bus fare
to the forest?
And anyway,
few forests are served by
public transport.

'Think of someone
who is a source of joy.'
What if the people you love
are just one more thing to worry about
because their lives are rubbish too?

This woman is living in cloud cuckoo land
and much as my body appreciates the calming music,
my mind can't cope with the inane drivel.
